WBCS 2020: Important Dates, Eligibility, Syllabus, Pattern and Result

WBCS 2020 - West Bengal Public Service Commission has released the revised exam calendar at its official website on August 4, 2020. The commission has postponed various exams due to COVID-19 pandemic. WPCS 2020 prelims exam has been successfully conducted on February 9, 2020. 

The commission has revised the WBCS 2020 Mains exam date. The exam is scheduled to be held from December 19 - 26, 2020. Candidates who have been successfully qualified in the prelims exam will be able to appear in the mains exam. WBCS 2020 Application Form

The application form of West Bengal PCS is available from November 5 to 25, 2019 in online mode. Candidates can pay the WBCS 2020 application fee online as well as offline mode. The last date to pay online fees is November 25 whereas candidates can pay fees in offline mode till November 26, 2019. WBCS 2020 Eligibility Criteria 

Public Service Commission, West Bengal prescribes the eligibility criteria for all the aspiring candidates of WBCS. The eligibility criteria include requirements based on nationality, age and educational qualification. Candidates can check the detailed WBCS eligibility criteria 2020 from below:

Nationality

The candidate must be a citizen of India.

Age:

  • Candidates who are between 21 to 36 years of age can apply for WBCS 2020. 
  • For the West Bengal Police Services (Group ‘B’), candidates must be between age 20 to 36 years of age. 
  • For Group ‘D’ services candidates must be in between 21to 39 years of age.
  • Also, candidates belonging West Bengal and are SC/ST/OBC/PwD will be provided upper age relaxation. However, SC/ST/OBC candidates who are from other states will be treated as General category.

Educational Criteria:

  • Candidates applying for WBCS must have a graduation degree from any recognized university by the Government of India. 
  • They must also know, how to speak, write and read in Bengali, however, candidates whose mother tongue is Nepali are not required to know Bengali.

WBCS 2020 Admit Card 

The exam conducting body release the WBCS admit card at its official website in online mode. Candidates can download the WBCS 2020 admit card by using the required credentials - registration number and date of birth/password in the login window. Public Service Commission, Bengal will release the WBCS admit card separately for all the three stages separately. 

The admit card contains all the important information about the candidate, exam and the exam centre. Along with the WBCS admit card 2020, candidates must also carry anyone photo ID card - Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Passport, and Voter ID card. 

WBCS 2020 Exam Centres 

Along with the notification, Public Service Commission, West Bengal has also released the exam centres for prelims examination of WBCS 2020. Candidates are required to select any three exam centre of WBCS while filling the application form. The details and address of WBCS 2020 exam centre will be mentioned on the admit card. WBCS Exam Pattern 2020

The exam pattern of WBCS has been released by the exam conducting body along with the notification. The exam pattern will help the candidates in understanding the type and nature of questions, marking scheme, mode of exam, time duration, etc. As per the WBCS 2020 exam pattern, the exam is held in three stages - Prelims, Mains and Personality Test. Candidates can check the table provided below to know the exam pattern of WBCS.

WBCS Exam Pattern 2020 - Prelims 

In the prelims exam, there will be a total of 200 objective-type questions carrying one mark each. Candidates are required to complete the paper within two and a half hours. There will be a total of eight sections carrying 25 marks each. Candidates will have to qualify the prelims test in order to get shortlisted for the mains exam.

As per the WBCS exam pattern, the mains exam will have six compulsory papers and one optional paper (consisting of two papers) for group A and/B have to be chosen by the candidates from the list of optional subjects given in the notification. Check below the table for more details.

WBCS 2020 - Personality Test

WBCS Personality test is held to assesses candidates’ personal qualities such as alertness of mind, logical exposition, intellectual and moral integrity, leadership and their interests. This test will be based on the candidate’s general interest. Check below the marking for different groups.

WBCS 2020 Syllabus 

Aspiring candidates for WBCS 2020 must go through the syllabus in order to prepare well for the examination. WBCS 2020 Answer Key 

After the exam, Public Service Commission, West Bengal releases the WBCS Answer Key. The answer key will likely to be available in the form of pdf. Candidates will also be able to raise objections in case of any discrepancy. To challenge the WBCS answer key 2020, candidates will also have to pay fees for every question. After analysing the answer key, the exam conducting body will release the final answer key. The answer key of WBCS will help the candidate to calculate their probable marks. 

WBCS 2020 Result 

The result of WBCS will be released in online mode for all three stages - prelims, mains and personality test. WBCS prelims result 2020 will likely to be released in the form of pdf containing the roll numbers of all the qualifying candidates. Those who will qualify in the prelims exam will have to appear for Mains. However, the marks secured in the prelims will not be added to prepare the final result. 

WBCS 2020 Cut off 

Public Service Commission, West Bengal will release category-wise cutoff for all the stages of exam. The cut off of WBCS 2020 is the minimum marks required to secure by the candidate in order to qualify for the next stage of the selection procedure. WBCS cut off is determined on the basis of a number of vacancies, the total number of candidates appeared and difficulty level of exam.
