UPSC IAS Application Form 2020 - Online Registration Process (Over)

UPSC IAS Application Form 2020: IAS prelims registration concluded on March 3, 2020. The application form was released on February 12, 2020, in online mode. Prerequisite to fill IAS application form was a valid email, phone number, scanned a photograph, signature.

UPSC has deferred the IAS prelims and mains examination due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, the IAS prelims examination will be conducted on October 4, 2020, while IAS mains will commence from January 8, 2021. Successfully registered candidates will be able to download IAS admit card for the prelims exam from the third week of September tentatively.

UPSC IAS Application Form 2020 - Online Submission

Candidates preparing for the IAS prelims exam can apply for the civil services exam by visiting the official website of UPSC. Below given is the detailed procedure to fill the online application form. 

Step 1 - Online Registration

1. Candidates need to visit the official website
2. Click on UPSC Civil Services (Prelims) Examination 2020 under active examination section.
3. Candidates need to register themselves on the UPSC website using their valid Email ID, phone number.
4. Complete the step 1 process by submitting the captcha

Step 2 - Part 1 Registration

1. Candidates need to click the Part 1 registration to start the application form filling process.

2. “Important instructions to fill Online Application Form” window will appear, candidates need to read and click on “Yes” to proceed further.
3. The Part 1 registration of the IAS application form for Civil Services Prelims exam 2020 will be opened.
4. In this section, candidates need to fill the following details to complete the initial stage of registration.

6. Candidates need to recheck the details they have filled in the part 1 of IAS application form registration. Once done, candidates can submit part 1 of registration.

Step 3 - Part 2 Registration

1. Login to Part 2 registration of the IAS application form by providing your DOB and registration id.

2. Candidates need to complete part 2 of the IAS application form registration by making the payment, selecting center for UPSC Prelims exam, upload photo, signature, and identity card copies.
3. On successful submission of the IAS online application form, candidates will receive the email and SMS for successful registration for the civil services prelims exam.

IAS application fee can be paid in both offline and online mode. For offline mode of payment, candidates need to pay the amount in any SBI branch. (Candidates need to take the print out pay-in-slip from online to pay the fee offline next working day). 

If candidates want to pay online mode, they can use the net banking / Debit card / Credit card method.

UPSC IAS Application Form 2020 - Important Guidelines

1. Online submission of the IAS application form can only be done at the official UPSC website.

2. All the mandatory fields (contains asterisk mark *) on the IAS online application form need to be filled properly.

3. No changes are allowed once the candidate submits the application form.

4. If candidates wish to make any changes in the IAS application form, candidates need to submit the fresh application on or before the last date of online application form filling (For IAS prelims exam the last day to fill the application form is 6:00 PM on 03-March-2020).

5. In the UPSC IAS application form for the prelims exam, there will be two parts candidates need to submit both the parts for the successful submission of the online application form.

6. In Part-1 registration of prelims application form, candidates have to fill their personal details, educational qualifications, and address.

7. In Part-2 registration of prelims application, candidates have to provide payment details, select the prelims exam center, Photograph and Signature uploading, Photo ID Document and Declaration. 

8. Candidates have to upload the scanned copy of their photograph and signature.

9. Candidates should provide their valid email address and Mobile number as the commission may be communicating with the candidates through e-mails and SMS if required. 


10. Candidates should note that no change will be allowed in the Specific Details like the Center of Examination, Optional Subjects, Medium of Examination, Compulsory Indian Language for Civil Services (Main) Examination once submitted.

11. Candidates have to provide the photo identity card number and upload a copy of the same in Online Application Form and remember to carry it at the time of Examination at the venue.

UPSC IAS Admit card


IAS prelims admit card will be available to download 3-4 weeks prior to the prelims exam. Candidates can download the admit card from the official website using their registration ID / Roll number and Date of Birth details.  

IAS admit card contains the important details like roll number, name, exam venue. Candidates need to carry IAS admit card along with valid ID proof to the examination centers.

A. Candidates can apply for the IAS prelims exam online on the official website from February 12, 2020 to March 3, 2020. 

Q. What if a candidate has entered the wrong data and needs to rectify?

A. If a candidate submits wrong data, then they have to submit a new application form again before the last day of application form filling.

Q. Can the candidate submit multiple application forms?

A. Yes, the application form that submitted last will be considered by the UPSC, the earlier application form will not be considered.
