UPSC IAS Examination 2017: No Change in UPSC Syllabus General Studies
There is no proposal currently under consideration of the Government to give more weightage to General Studies Paper in the UPSC Civil Services Exam. This announcement was made by Union Minister, Jitendra Singh at a meeting with the Principal Secretaries of the State Governments in New Delhi.
In 2015, UPSC SyllabusGeneral Studies Paper-II of was made qualifying in nature with minimum marks of 33 per cent or 66 marks should be scored.
Prior to that, in 2011 changes were made in the syllabus of Civil Services Prelims Exam while in 2013, changes were made in Civil Services Main Exam where four papers of General Studies (GS), each carrying 250 marks.
General Studies (I, II, III and IV) has 1000 marks out of 1750 marks in the descriptive and written part of the examination.
Thus the pattern for UPSC CSE 2017 prelims exam for Indian Administrative Services (IAS) remains the same for now. The preliminary exam will have two objective type papers similar to last year- Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) and General Studies.
PTI reported that while responding to a question on whether the government is considering giving more weightage to general studies in the UPSC s CSE for both preliminary and Mains Examination, Jitendra Singh said, At present, there is no such proposal under the consideration of the government.
Also, Singh added that B S Baswan committee report is under consideration of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and its recommendation on the UPSC IASexamination 2017 on the report are yet to be received.
The principal role of the Baswan Committee is to examine the plan of civil services examination or deciding upsc syllabus 2017, UPSC syllabus 2017 in three stages, a number of papers, structure, and duration of civil service exams, marking scheme of papers, weightage of marks and system of evaluation of the civil services examination.
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is an organisation that works under the Central Government to recruit staff for various posts in the various ministries and departments. The Commission also conducts examinations for the recruitment in various departments of the state.
