UPSC IAS Exam Notification 2020: Dates, Latest Updates, Recruitment Process

UPSC IAS Exam Notification 2020 - UPSC has released the revised dates of UPSC prelims and mains examination 2020. The commission has released the revised exam calendar at its official website on June 5, 2020 in which the revised dates for all the exams were given which were deferred due to COVID-19 pandemic. 

Earlier, UPSC had released the official notification of UPSC IAS 2020 exam on February 12, 2020. Candidates preparing for the exam can get the vacancy details, application filling procedure details in the official IAS exam notification. Previously, the IAS prelims exam was scheduled to be held on May 31, 2020 while IAS mains was scheduled to be held on September 18, 2020. But as per the revised exam calendar, IAS prelims 2020 is scheduled to be held on October 4, 2020 while IAS mains 2020 is scheduled to be held on January 8, 2020.

UPSC IAS Exam Notification 2020 - Vacancy Details

The number of vacancies to be filled for the UPSC Civil Services Exam 2020 has been officially announced on 12th February 2020. It is expected that in UPSC IAS 2020 number will be around 800. In 2019 UPSC IAS notification the number of vacancies was 896. In 2018, there were only 782 Vacancies for CSE and 110 Vacancies for IFoS.

UPSC IAS Notification 2020 - How to Apply for Exam

Candidates preparing for IAS exam 2020 can apply online on the official UPSC website. To apply online, candidates should have a scanned photo, signature and ID along with valid Email ID, mobile number. Also, the Admit Card for IAS exam can be directly downloaded from the UPSC Website, as mentioned in the official notification of the exam.

While applying, there are a few points that need to be taken care of -

  • While registering online for the exam, make sure you submit only a single application.
  • Applicants who are already in Government service, Government owned industrial undertakings, or other similar organization, or in private employment, should submit their applications directly to the Union Public Service Commission.
  • Candidates can select examination centres from the list maintained by UPSC.
  • Candidates should carefully choose the examination centre for exams during the registration process. Both Prelims and Mains have separate centres, but once you have locked a centre for the exam (whether it s for Prelims or Mains), it is not possible to change. Please note, that Commission reserves the right to change the Centres at their discretion if the situation demands. The candidates should note that no request for change of centre will be entertained, once allocated.
  • There is no need to submit any certificate regarding age, education qualification, caste etc. along with the application form. It will be verified only in UPSC Mains exam.
Note: Fill your online application as soon as possible after the release of the notification as the centres are allocated on "first-apply-first allot" basis.

UPSC IAS Notification 2020 - IAS Exam Eligibility Criteria

  • Nationality: Candidate must be a citizen of India
  • Educational Qualification: Candidates must hold the graduation or equivalent qualification from the recognised universities. 
  • Age Limit: The lower age limit for UPSC IAS exam 2020 is 21 years as on August 2020 and the upper age limit is 32 years.
  • Number of Attempts: UPSC provides 6 attempts IAS exam in general Category, For OBC the number of attempts is 9 and SC / ST - there is no restriction on the number of attempts.

UPSC IAS Notification 2020 - Recruitment Process

In the UPSC civil services exam, candidates need to face three-level exam starting from IAS Prelims exam, IAS mains exam to IAS interview stage. 

  • Candidates who qualify IAS prelims exam appear for mains exam. 
  • Based on Candidates performance in IAS mains exam candidates are shortlisted for IAS interview.
  • IAS merit list is prepared based on candidates performance in IAS mains exam and IAS interview scores.

Payment Methods

Candidates have the option of paying the fee of Rs 100/- online by debit card, credit card, online banking etc. Those who wish to pay by cash can go to any SBI branch pay and collect a system-generated challan, on or before 03rd March 2020 till 6:00 PM.

UPSC IAS Notification 2020 - CSE Exam Pattern

IAS Prelims Exam - Consists of two papers of Objective type (MCQs). GS Paper 1 marks are counted for qualifying mains exam. GS Paper 2 (CSAT) is qualifying in nature.

IAS Mains Exam - Total 9 papers included in mains exam. They are descriptive papers. English and Indian Language papers are qualifying in nature. Essay, 4 GS Papers and one optional subject (two papers).

IAS Interview - IAS Mains qualified candidates need to appear before the UPSC board for an interview. The marks allotted for the IAS interview is 275 marks.

10% Reservation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) 

UPSC has reserved 10% seats for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS). Recently Indian Parliament passed a bill for 10% reservation quota in government jobs and education for Economically weaker section.

UPSC has included this provision the recently released UPSC Prelims notification. Now 10% of seats reserved for EWS section in IAS, IPS, IRS and other civil services.

Only 10% of seats are reserved for EWS section, there is no provision for upper age limit and number of attempts.
