Indian Institute of Technology – Madras

Indian Institute of Technology – Delhi

Indian Institute of Technology – Mumbai

According to the QS World Ranking, IIT Mumbai is the top-ranked engineering college in India in 2019. IIT Mumbai, occupying a total area of 550 acres in the picturesque location between Powai and Vihar lakes in Mumbai, offers high-quality education in 16 streams of engineering. It also offers postgraduate courses and ample scope for doctoral research in a variety of subjects.
The intake examinations for IIT Mumbai are the JEE (Advanced), GATE, CEED, and UCEED. Some renowned personalities like the late ex-Defence Minister of India, Manohar Parrikar are alumni of IIT Mumbai and Bhavesh Aggarwal (Ola Cabs).

Indian Institute of Technology – Kharagpur

At one point in time, IIT Kharagpur used to hold prime ranking among the IITs in India. Usually, the students with the highest marks used to get IIT Kharagpur. IIT Kharagpur, situated about 120 km from Kolkata, is the first IIT set up in India in 1951. It has a sprawling campus spread over 2100 acres, making it the largest of all IIT campuses in India.
IIT Kharagpur still has the highest enrolment and number of engineering disciplines. Students have to top the JEE (Advanced) of GATE to secure admission in IIT Kharagpur. Some of the famous alumni are Sundar Pichai (CEO, Google) and Arvind Kejriwal (CM, Delhi). 

Indian Institute of Technology – Kanpur

IIT Kanpur has the distinction for being the first Indian institute to offer engineering degree in the field of computer science. IIT Kanpur, set up in 1959 in an area of more than 1000 acres is one of the oldest IITs in India. A bachelor’s degree from IIT Kanpur is the most expensive as compared to the other IITs in India.
The intake examinations for IIT Kanpur are the JEE, GATE, or the CEED. The most famous alumnus of this institute is Narayana Murthy, founder of Infosys.

Indian Institute of Technology – Roorkee

IIT Roorkee is one of the top engineering colleges in India. This institute has the oldest civil engineering department in India, set up in 1847. This institute, spread over 365 acres is the seventh IIT to be set up in India. Many alumni from this IIT have won prestigious awards like the Padma Shri and the SS Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology.
Students have to clear JEE, GATE, or CEED to get admission in this IIT.

Indian Institute of Technology – Guwahati

IIT Guwahati, located on the banks of the Brahmaputra is one of the most beautiful campuses in India. This institute, established in 1994 is set up on a 700-acre land area surrounded on one side by the hills and vast open spaces and the magnificent Brahmaputra River on the other. Along with IIT Kanpur, this institute is one of the most expensive in terms of annual fees for the B.Tech/BE course. 

Indian Institute of Technology – Hyderabad

Indian Institute of Hyderabad is another top quality IIT in India. It offers graduate, postgraduate, and doctoral degrees in various streams of engineering. It is among the youngest of all the IITs in India. Since its inception in 2008, IIT Hyderabad has gained in prominence over the past ten years to secure a top-ten ranking in the NIRF list. Students have to obtain high marks in the JEE or GATE to ensure admission in this prestigious institution.

College of Engineering - Anna University Chennai

CEG, Anna University is one of the oldest institutions in India as it is in existence from 1794. This college is the most sought-after engineering college after the IITs in India. Students have to top the HSC exams in Tamil Nadu to gain admission into this prestigious college. It has 16 departments along with six University-affiliated centres and twelve research centres.

National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirapalli

NIT Tiruchirapalli, previously known as Regional Engineering College, Tiruchirapalli is reputed engineering college in India. NIT, Tiruchirapalli is the top-ranked NIT in India. These NITs rank below the IITs in order of preference for the students. However, the standard of education is equal to that of the IITs.
