TNPSC Group 1 Exam 2020 - Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission

TNPSC Group 1 2020 - Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) conducts the TNPSC exam to recruit candidates in various post/services. TNPSC Group 1 Prelims exam was scheduled to be held on April 05, 2020, in the online mode which has now been postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak. The date for the prelims exam will be available soon on the official website of TNPSC.

TNPSC Group 1 Application Form 2020

The application form of TNPSC was released on January 20, 2019, in online mode. Candidates who were eligible to apply for the exam had to submit their applications till February 19, 2019. To fill the application form candidates were required to fill in the basic details, academic details, contact details and upload the scanned images in the prescribed format.

The TNPSC one-time registration fee is ₹150 and the prelims exam fee is Rs. 100. 1 out of 50 candidates will be selected for mains exam based on cut off marks in group 1 prelims exam. Selected candidates in the preliminary exam once again need to register for the mains exam by submitting an online application with a fee of ₹200.   • Register for TNPSC one-time registration at the official website.
  • Sign in with TNPSC login ID and password.
  • Now, click on ‘Current Application’ then ‘Apply Now’ button.
  • Select TNPSC Group 1 Services.
  • Enter and verify your educational qualifications, address to communicate and exam center details.
  • Check and confirm declaration by clicking on “I agree to finally submit my online application”.
  • Then, move to the next step that proceeds to the payment section.
  • Select the payment mode option from debit card/credit card / NEFT and proceed further to make payment.
  • After making the payment successfully, print your TNPSC group 1 application for future reference.

TNPSC Group 1 2020 Eligibility Criteria

I. Age limit as on July 1, 2020

The age of candidates must be between 21 and 32 years as on July 1, 2020. However, the maximum age limit for SC/ST/MBC category candidates is 37 years. TNPSC has provided further age relaxation for PWD (10 years relaxation) and Ex-Servicemen (max-age of 53 years) category applicants.

II. Education qualification as on January 1, 2020

At least a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from recognized college/university as on January 1, 2020. The final year students are also eligible to apply for these posts.

III. Physical qualification

For Deputy Superintendent of Police and District Officer vacancy, the candidates should meet the specific physical qualifications. Check the official TNPSC Group 1 notification 2020 for further details on physical qualification requirements such as height, weight and chest measurement.

IV. Knowledge in the Tamil language

For all TNPSC group 1 posts, a candidate should be proficient in the Tamil language.

TNPSC Group 1 Hall Ticket 2020

TNPSC Group 1 Hall Ticket 2020 for prelims exam will be released by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission tentatively from the last week of March 2020 and prelims exam will be conducted on April 5, 2020.

Below is the process to download hall ticket for TNPSC Group 1 exam 2020:

  • Firstly, go to the official website of TNPSC i.e.,
  • Next, click on download TNPSC Group 1 Hall Ticket 2020.
  • Enter your TNPSC Group 1 registration ID and date of birth.
  • Then finally click on the “submit” button.
  • Your hall ticket will be generated, download/print it for your reference.

A separate admit card for mains exam will be released in August 2020 for selected candidates in the prelims exam.

TNPSC Group 1 Exam Pattern 2020

TNPSC Group 1 Exam Pattern is held in three phases given as follows:


The TNPSC Group 1 Prelims Exam will be of 3 hours duration, consisting of 200 multiple choice questions with a total of 300 marks. Out of those, 150 questions will be from General Knowledge and the remaining 50 questions will be from the aptitude & Mental ability test. The prelims exam will be of objective type and the candidates will be evaluated for the mains exam with a ration of 1:50.


The mains exam will be the descriptive type which will consist of 3 papers holding 250 marks for each paper. The exam will be of 3 hours duration. There will be no negative marking in the mains exam as well as Prelims.

Final Interview:

After qualifying the Prelims and Mains, the applicant will have to appear for the final personal interview round which will be of 100 marks.

TNPSC Group 1 Syllabus 2020 

TNPSC Group 1 Syllabus 2020 for prelims and main exams with exam pattern has announced. TNPSC Group 1 syllabus for preliminary exam has 200 objective type questions for 300 marks, out of which 150 were from general studies section, and remaining 50 questions from aptitude & mental ability test section. The total duration of the test is 3 hours.

TNPSC Group 1 Answer Key 2020

TNPSC releases the provisional and final answer key for the exam. The answer key of TNPSC contains the correct answer to all the questions asked in the exam. The TNPSC Group 1 final answer key will be published in pdf format. The result of TNPSC Group 1 will be declared on the basis of the final TNPSC Group 1 Answer Key. 

TNPSC Group 1 Result 2020

The result of TNPSC will be released separately for all three stages - prelims, mains and personal interview. TNPSC Group 1 Result is released in online mode in the form of pdf.  In order to get recruited, candidates will have to qualify all the three stages of TNPSC Group 1. Candidates obtaining minimum qualifying marks in mains examination will be shortlisted for the personal interview. On the basis of marks secured in the mains exam and personal interview, the final result of TNPSC Group 1 will be declared. 

TNPSC Group 1 Cut Off 2020

TNPSC Group 1 cut off is the minimum qualifying marks that candidates have to secure to qualify the exam. TNPSC Group 1 cut off of prelims examination is calculated based on the marks secured by the last selected candidates. The final TNPSC Group 1 cut off is determined based on the total marks secured in the mains exam and interview by finally selected candidates.
