SSC CGL Exam Pattern

SSC CGL Exam Pattern is divided mainly into three parts: TIER I, TIER II, TIER III. Both Tier -I and Tier II exam will be conducted in online mode. It was introduced last year and the SSC CGL 2017 Syllabus Pattern is likely to remain the same. While Tier III is a descriptive paper of 100 marks in pen and paper mode that has to be attempted within 60 minutes. The Tier-IV consists of Data Entry Skill test and Computer Proficiency test for certain posts only.

SSC CGL 2017 Exam Pattern with complete tier wise information is given below:

Tier-I 

SSC CGL 2017 Exam Pattern Tier-1 comprises of 100 Questions, with 25 Questions from each of the four sections given below.

  • The total time allotted to attempt Tier I Exam is 60 minutes. 
  • There is a negative marking of 0.50 for every wrong answer and +2 for every correct answer.

Tier-II

It is a computer based Multiple Choice Questions exam.  

  • Paper I and II is compulsory for all.
  • Paper III is only for those applying for Statistical Investigator Gr.II & Compiler posts.
  • Paper IV is only compulsory for those applying for the posts of Assistant Audit Officer (AAO) in C&A posts.
  • There will be negative marking of 0.25 for every wrong answer in paper II and negative marking of 0.50 for every wrong answer in the paper I, III and IV.
  • The total time allotted to attempt Tier II Exam is 120 minutes.

Tier-III

Pen and paper mode. The shortlisting criteria for Tier-III which is a descriptive examination takes into consideration marks scored in both Tier I and Tier II of SSC CGL examination.

Candidates who make it to the merit list qualify for Tier III exam.

The minimum qualifying marks for the Tier-III paper is 33% only.

  • Essay Writing and Letter / Application writing
  • The one-hour paper which can be written in either English or Hindi.
  • It is out of 100 marks.

Tier-IV 

  • Only for a few posts
  • The Tier-IV consists of Data Entry Skill test and Computer Proficiency test.
  • The Skill test is for those, who have applied for Post of Tax Assistants (In Central Excise and Income Tax) and Computer Proficiency test for those who have applied for Assistant Section Officer posts in CSS.

    You must have completed the graduation by a certain date (probably 1st August, 2017). Once you are a graduate, you can appear for the SSC CGL exam, however you can start preparing for the exam now.
