Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) Recruitment through GATE 2019

Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) is expected to announce recruitment for the post of Executive Trainee (24th Batch) through GATE on January 15, 2019. Engineers graduating from Electronics and Communication, Electrical, and Civil disciplines are eligible for application. The candidates would be shortlisted based on their GATE scores, post which they will be called for group discussion and personal interview.

PGCIL is also known as India’s Central Transmission Utility (CTU) and is one of the world’s largest transmission utilities. Awarded the Navratna status, PGCIL is engaged in the transmission of power, including planning, coordination, management, and supervision of the entire transmission system at the inter-state level.

Eligibility Criteria for PGCIL Recruitment for 2019 as Executive Trainees:



Executive Trainee (Electronics and Communication)

A full-time, Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering specialised in Electronics and Communications/Electronics and Electrical Communication/Electronics/ Electronics and Telecommunication/ Telecommunication from a deemed/recognised university, or an AMIE in the same discipline.

Executive Trainee (Electrical)

A full-time, Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering specialised in Electrical/ Electrical and Electronics/ Electrical (Power)/ Power Systems from a deemed/recognised university, or an AMIE in the same discipline.

Executive Trainee (Civil)

A full-time, Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering specialised in Civil from a deemed/recognised university, or an AMIE in the same discipline.


Candidates who are in their final year and who will be expecting their final semester results in August 2019 are also eligible to apply, provided they have a minimum aggregate of 65% or equivalent CGPA in all the semesters up to their pre-final examinations.

Essential Steps on PGCIL Recruitment Application Form 2019:

Before candidates commence their applications, it is important for them to have successfully been registered and appeared for the GATE 2019 examination. The registration number mentioned on their GATE 2019 admit cards would be required for the application process, which can be broken down into the following steps:

  • The link to access the registration form will be available on PGCIL’s official website on January 15, 2019
  • Candidates will have to register by filling out their personal and academic details as mentioned in their original certificates, along with their GATE 2019 registration number
  • All the information in the application form should also correspond to the details submitted by the candidates in the GATE 2019 application form
  • Candidates are also required to upload some relevant documents which are detailed below:

  • After filling out all the details and uploading the registration form, the system will generate a unique registration number which will act as the password if the candidates wish to login in future
  • Candidates will also be provided with an option to download their application form, and are advised to do so since it may be required during interviews
  • Once the registration is completed, candidates will be notified of the same through  emails sent to their registered email addresses
  • Candidates would then be required to pay an application fee of INR 500. Departmental candidates and those belonging to the SC/ST/PWD/Ex-Servicemen categories are exempted from the payment of application fee. The payment can be performed online through credit card/debit card/net banking/e-wallet
  • Post the payment of application fee, a transaction id will be generated and candidates are advised to make a note of all the relevant details
  • In the instance of the transaction status reflecting a failed transaction despite the amount being deducted, candidates are advised to wait for two hours before checking on the update of the payment status
  • If there is no change in the payment status, candidates would have to email the concerned authorities while quoting their Power Grid registration number

Selection Process by PGCIL through GATE:

  • The candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of marks obtained by them in GATE 2019. PGCIL will conduct its recruitment process through a group discussion and personal interview, which will assess a candidate’s knowledge, skill, aptitude, and general attitude
  • The shortlisted candidates would be required to carry the original copies of their GATE 2019 admit cards and scorecards while reporting for the interview along with their original photo ID
  • PGCIL will calculate the final scores according to the following weightage:

Remuneration for PGCIL Recruitment Through GATE 2019:

Executive Trainees would have to undergo a training period of one year and will fall under the pay scale of INR 60,000 to INR 1,80,00 per month. After successful completion of training, the candidates will be retained as engineers into the PGCIL. The total Cost-to-Company (CTC) and other emoluments would vary according to the location of posting and other terms during the appointment.

Service Agreement:

The selected candidates would have to fulfil a service agreement bond for completing their one year training period and to serve the Power Grid for a minimum period of three years. Candidates belonging to the general category will have a service bond for INR 5,00,000 while SC/ST candidates will have to serve a service bond of INR 2,50,000.
