OPSC Exam Pattern and Syllabus 2020

Odisha Civil Service Exam Pattern and SyllabusOdisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) releases the exam pattern and syllabus of OPSC along with the notification. Candidates who are preparing for the exam can check the OPSC exam pattern and syllabus 2020 for all the stages - Prelims and Mains. OPSC exam pattern & syllabus include different sections, subjects, and topics from where the questions will be asked in the exam, marking scheme and duration of the exam. 

Through OPSC syllabus & exam pattern candidates will get an idea about the overall question paper and topics that are asked in the examination. Candidates must go through the OPSC exam pattern & syllabus 2020 before starting their preparation.

All the finally selected candidates in OPSC are recruited for Group A and Group B services of state government. The various position of the general administration and police officers are filled by the examination.

As per the OPSC Exam Pattern, it has three stages:

  • OPSC Prelims Exam
  • OPSC Main Exam
  • Interview

OPSC Exam Pattern: Preliminary Examination

The preliminary exam consists of two papers. The exam is objective type (multiple choice question) and each exam shall be of 2 hours duration.

 Paper I: The paper I consist of General studies questions. The duration of the exam is 2 hours and the total marks are 200. The merit list for the mains exam will be based on the marks obtained in the Paper I.

Paper II: The Paper II consist of aptitude questions. The duration of the exam is 2 hours and the total marks will be 200. The paper II is qualifying in nature and the candidates have to score 33% in the Paper II otherwise there Paper I will not be evaluated.

OPSC Exam Pattern: Mains Examination

The Mains exam consists of five compulsory paper and four optional paper for which candidates have to select two optional subjects.

Personality Test

The candidates for the personality test will be selected on the basis of the merit list prepared based on the marks obtained in the mains exam. The personality test will be of 250 marks. The final list of recommended candidates will be based on the cumulative marks obtained in Mains exam and the personality test.

OPSC Prelims Paper I

  • Current event of National and International importance
  • Economic and Social Development Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiative, etc.
  • History of India and Indian National Movement.
  • Indian and World Geography-Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World
  • Indian Polity and Governance-Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
  • General Issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change that do not require subject specialization, and
  • General Science.

OPSC Prelims Paper II

  • Comprehension
  • Interpersonal Skills including communication skills
  • Decision Making and Problem Solving
  • Logical Reasoning and Analytic ability
  • General Mental Ability
  • Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude) (Class-X level). Data interpretation (Charts, Graphs, Tables, Data Sufficiency etc. Class-X level); and
  • English Language Comprehension Skills (Class-X level).
