NEET 2019 Syllabus

The National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) is a nationwide entrance exam for students who want to pursue a career in the medical sciences or dentistry field. Students successful in this examination can secure admission in the government or private medical or dental colleges in the country. One can apply for both undergraduate as well as postgraduate courses. The exam is conducted by NTA (National Testing Agency) and is a competition between 15 lakh (approx.) students for around 90,000 seats in UG and PG courses. The exam is a three-hour long paper, conducted online and is available in 11 languages. The test covers three subjects - Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany + Zoology).

The Medical Council of India decides the topics that will be covered in the test; however, the syllabus mainly covers topics under Physics, Chemistry, and Biology from Class 11th and 12th. The paper is worth 720 marks in total, with Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, and Botany consisting of 180 marks each. Knowing the syllabus helps the students work on their subjects efficiently and helps them in managing their overall study time.

Syllabus of NEET 2019

Overall, the ratio of the importance of Class 11th and Class 12th topics is 2:3, i.e. sixty percentage of the paper will be made up of Class 12th topics, and only forty percent of the paper will be from Class 11th topics. However, Class 11th topics are to be read to understand Class 12th topics.

The following are the subject wise topics for the NEET 2019 exam:

Important Topics for NEET Physics

For Physics, the 12th-grade topics carry more weightage for they are more important. However, topics like Newton’s Laws of Motion and Friction from grade 11th are essential for numerical.

NEET Syllabus Topics Wise Weightage

To crack an entrance exam, one must study smart. While it seems easier to skip concepts and chapters, but it would be advisable to prioritize, rather than leave the topics. Certain topics and chapters have more weightage in the paper than other sections, and a student should study accordingly. One will need to devote a lot of time to study all the chapters but when it is time for you to revise, students must create a smart study plan, where they devote more time to the chapters that carry more weightage and comparatively less time to the other topics.

In Physics, numerical questions play an essential role, and hence they carry a lot of weightage and are time-consuming at the same time.
For Chemistry, Organic Chemistry is known to have more weightage compared to Inorganic Chemistry.
As for Biology, Botany and Zoology are equally important.

However, this is not a fixed or an official weightage - this is dependent on the pattern of the previous years’ papers.

NEET Physics Weightage

There are 45 questions in Physics, and it carries 180 marks of the total 720. The subject focuses on theory as well as numerical questions. Modern Physics, Heat and Thermodynamics, Oscillation, and Magnetism are some important topics from the theory point of view. For the numerical questions, it is vital to learn the formulae thoroughly.
