NEET 2019 Cut Off

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) was earlier known as the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT). It is a qualifying examination for the students who want to pursue their career medical or dental sciences. The marks secured in NEET are acceptable both in government and private institutions in India, i.e. medical and dental colleges in India. NEET allows students to apply to 54,000 medical/dental colleges in the country. According to the Supreme Court's order, 2016 onwards, NEET would be the only examination for admission in the medical and dental colleges for the State level quota seats and the All India quota seats.

Factors that Determine the NEET 2019 Cut Off

It must be noted that the cut off mentioned are decided based on several factors. Depending on these factors the cut off varies across different states. Following are the major factors that determine the NEET cut-off:

  • The total applicants who appeared for the NEET exam
  • Number of seats available in the MBBS and the BDS colleges in state and private colleges
  • The difficulty level of the question paper
  • The NEET UG result of the applicant and the marks secured

Keeping in mind the factors that affect the NEET cut off, the minimum qualifying percentile is as follows:

NEET 2019 Cut Off

Once the NTA releases the results of the NEET 2019, only then the NEET cut off is determined. Different factors are taken into consideration to ascertain the cut-off. The major factors that affect the cut-off are the total number of candidates, the number of candidates scoring the highest marks, and seats available.

Following will be NEET 2019 ‘s minimum qualifying criteria as per NTA

  1. General candidates: 50 percentile
  2. UR PWD: 45 percentile
  3. SC/ST/OBC: 40 percentile

Only those candidates who score more than the marks mentioned above will be regarded as qualified candidates for NEET 2019. It must be noted that barely clearing the marks as mentioned earlier is not a guarantee of admission. As the competition is intense, the candidate needs to score extremely well to be eligible for further counselling.

NEET 2017 Cut Off

On June 23rd, 2017, the CBSE released the NEET cut off 2017 and the NEET 2017 result. The NEET cut off is the least marks an applicant must score to be eligible to get selected for the counselling rounds. The CBSE plans out the cut off percentiles. In the year 2017, based on the cut off 6,11,739 applicants were shortlisted for counselling. The cut off remains somewhat similar to the cutoffs of the previous year. Keeping in mind certain factors that decide the cutoffs we can easily estimate next year’s cut off percentiles. In the table below it can be observed that the cut off for the general category in NEET 2017 is 50 percentile which is equal to the total of 131 marks of the aggregate.

Factors Determining the Merit List in Case of a Tie

There might be cases where two candidates may have scored precisely the same marks. In this situation, it is essential to use a tie-breaker to determine the exact rank. As such, a process has been identified to determine the merit rank of a candidate. The following factors will be used as a tie-breaker to determine the exact rank in the given sequence only:

  • The candidate who secures higher marks in NEET’s Biology section will secure a higher rank than the other candidate in the merit list;
  • The candidate who secures higher marks in NEET’s Chemistry section will secure the higher rank than the other candidate in the merit list
  • If the tie remains the candidate with less amount of incorrect answers gets the higher position in the merit list;
  • If the tie remains the candidate who is senior in age than the other will be placed higher in rank the merit list.

The State Council authorities decide and finalise the eligibility for the state quota seats. The candidates who are looking to take admission under the state quota seats must clear the cut off required for the seats as stated in the NEET 2019 cut off. But this is not the only factor that makes the candidate eligible for the said state quota seats.
