Meghalaya Civil Services Exam Pattern and Syllabus

Meghalaya Public Service Commission conducts Meghalaya Civil Services examination to recruit eligible candidates for administrative posts in the state. Candidates who are interested in applying for Meghalaya Civil Services can go through the scheme and detailed syllabus of examination here.

Exam Pattern

The competitive examination comprises

  1. Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination (Objective Type) for the selection of candidates for Main Examination
  2. Civil Services (Main) Examination (Written); and
  3. Interview Test for the selection of candidates for the Meghalaya Civil Service.

Marks obtained in Interview for Personality Test will be counted for ranking. Marks thus obtained by the candidates in the Main Examination (written part as well as interview) would determine their final ranking.

Preliminary Examination

The Preliminary examination will consist of two compulsory Papers. Both the question papers will be of the objective type (multiple choice questions). General Studies paper –II i.e. Aptitude Test will be of qualifying nature. Duration is two hours for each paper.

  • Current events of national and international importance
  • History of India and Indian National Movement.
  • Indian and World Geography - Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World
  • Indian Polity and Governance - Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc
  • Economic and Social Development - Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc.
  • General issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change
  • General Science.

 

PAPER –II

  • Comprehension
  • Interpersonal skills including communication skills;
  • Logical reasoning and analytical ability
  • Decision-making and problem solving
  • General mental ability
  • Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. - Class X level)

Main Examination

The Main Examination will consist of a written examination and an interview test. The written examination will consist of 8 papers of conventional essay type out of which one paper will be of qualifying in nature.

NOTE:  The paper on English (Paper A) will be of Matriculation or equivalent standard and will be of qualifying nature only. The marks obtained in this paper will not be counted for ranking.

Note: The question papers for the examination will be of conventional (essay) type. Each paper will be of three hours duration.

Interview Test

Only Candidates who have qualified the written examination and fulfil the eligibility criteria will be called for interview. The interview will contain 275 as maximum marks. The marks obtained in the interview together with the marks obtained in the written exam will be considered for final merit list.
