JOSAA Counselling 2019

This year, the Joint Seat Allocation Authority will open registration for JoSAA counselling on June 15th, 2019. Though all students who have passed in the JEE Mains and/or the JEE Advanced exams are eligible for JoSAA counselling, the institutes for which both categories of students can apply for, varies.

Jee Main qualified students can apply for a seat in the National Institutes of Technology (NIT), Indian Institutes of Technology (NIT), International Institutes of Information Technology (IIIT) and Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTI).

Jee Advanced qualifiers, however, can apply for a seat in any of the above colleges plus all JoSAA participating academic institutes. The participating institutes in JoSAA Counselling 2019 amount to almost 100 and include:

  • All 23 IITs
  • All 31 NITs
  • All 23 IIITs
  • 20 Other - GFTIs

The allotted seats for all students selected for JoSAA 2019 will be announced in 7 rounds spaced over June and July 2019.

It’s important for you, as a student, to not get disheartened if your name doesn’t appear in the initial rounds of seat allotment. You are advised to wait till the last round patiently, without losing hope.

JOSAA 2019 Counselling Eligibility criteria

Before you register for JoSAA counselling, check the eligibility criteria, pertaining to your specialization.

Here are the eligibility rules that take variations into consideration.

To appear for JoSAA counselling, students should

  • Be qualified in Jee Advance 2019 at IITs (excluding preparatory courses)

or

  • Be qualified in Jee Advanced 2019 for preparatory courses at IITs and have achieved a satisfactory grade in Class 12 or equivalent

or

  • Fulfill the following for B.E. or B. TECH counselling:
  • A ranking in Jee Main 2019 (Paper 1) for B.E. or B. Tech programs from NITs, IIITs, IIEST and other – GFTIs.
  • 12th Grade pass with Physics and Mathematics (compulsory) and an elective among Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology or a Technical Vocational subject
  • At least 45% result or 40% for reserved category, in each subject

or

  • Fulfill the following for the Architectural counselling:
  • A ranking in Jee Main 2019 (Paper 2) for B. Arch or B. Planning programs from NITs, IIITs, IIEST and other – GFTIs.
  • Mathematics as a subject in 12th Grade (or equivalent)
  • 50% aggregate marks in 5 subjects including Mathematics

JOSAA 2019 Counselling Registration

Prior to getting into the JoSAA counselling sessions, you are required to register in the following manner:

Step 1: Register Online

  • Go to the official JoSAA website
  • Click on ‘Online registering and choice filling’
  • Enter your Jee Main 2019 Roll number and Password

Step 2: Password change

This is a necessary step, hence:

  • Go to your profile and cross-check all details
  • Then click on ‘change password’
  • Set a new password
  • Press ‘submit changes’

Step 3: Fill your choice

  • Students who have passed both the JEE Main and the JEE Advanced exams may choose any of the programs being offered.
  • Students who have passed in only the JEE Main, may only choose programs offered at NITs, IIITs, and other – GFTIs.
  • You may choose to view programs according to their institute or discipline.

Step 4: Make the choice

  • Go to ‘Choice Filling & Locking’
  • Choose as many as you can to increase your chances of being accepted
  • Once chosen, go to ‘Choices inter change’ and place your selections in order of preference
  • Click on ‘Lock choice’
  • Click on ‘I Agree’ to lock your choices and sign the declaration
  • Take a print-out, keep it safe!

Step 5: Make the payment

The application fee for the general and international students’ category is Rs. 35, 000.For students belonging to SC, ST, Gen-Pwd, OBC-NCL-PwD, SC – PwD or ST – PwD it’s Rs. 15,000

You can make your payment via:

  1. a) Net banking (online)
  2. b) Debit or Credit card (online)
  3. c) Cash payment at any SBI Bank outlet (offline)

JOSAA 2019 Counselling Procedure

Once you have registered online with your Jee Main roll number and initial password, then reset the password, confirmed your details and locked in your choices, this procedure follows:

Notification

You will be notified online about your seat allotment and ranking. There are seven rounds in all.

Letter and Payment

Allotted students can log into their online accounts and download the JoSAA 2019 counselling provisional allotment letter. This is also when you are expected to make the payment for the counselling.

Document Verification at Centers

In your allotment details, your reporting Centre will be mentioned. The schedule shared above has the dates for document verification pertaining to allotments for each round. You will be required to report to your Centre with your valid documents, on your date, at your specific location. This is mandatory.

Report to Institute

Once your documents are verified, you will then need to report to your assigned institute to finally confirm your seat.

Documents required for attending JOSAA 2019 Counselling

Here is a list of documents you should carry with you when visiting your Centre, depending on your institute...

For students allotted to NITs, IIITs and GFTIs:

  • 3 passport sized photographs (same as the ones used in the Jee Main 2019 Registration)
  • Provisional seat allotment letter
  • Candidate undertaking
  • Proof of fee payment
  • JEE Main 2019 Score card
  • JEE Main 2019 Admit card
  • Date of birth proof or your 10th Grade mark-sheet
  • 12th Grade mark sheet

  • Some FAQs related to JOSAA 2019 Counselling

1) Does JOSAA conduct spot counselling?

No, JoSAA does not conduct spot counselling.

2) Can I submit my documents later in case I don’t have all when visiting the reporting Centre?

No, you will be required to carry all valid documents with you when you’re visiting the reporting Centre for verification.

3) Can I get a refund halfway through my counselling?

Once the counselling begins, there can be no refunds.

4) Can I change my programs once my seat is allotted?

No, you cannot change your options once they are locked.

5) If I wish to change my institute, what can I do?

If you are eligible for the institute you want and selected for it, you may contact the relevant authorities to get it changed (?)

6) Can I get a seat for JoSAA counselling in a different state to where I have appeared for my JEE Mains and Advanced?

Yes, you can.

7) I have been allotted a seat in any institute of my choice, but I won’t be able to attend the first week of JoSAA counselling. What can I do?

You will need to inform the authorities at the reporting Centre and your academic institute via a formal letter, stating the valid reasons (?)

8) Can I make a cheque payment for my JoSAA counselling?

No, payments are only accepted online (net banking or debit card/credit card) or cash (SBI bank).

9) How are seats allocated under JoSAA?

Seats are allocated according to JEE Mains or JEE Advanced ranks, the choices filled and availability of seats.
