    JKPSC Exam Pattern for State Services Exam:

    JKPSC Exam Pattern is broadly divided into three sections i.e. JKPSC Prelims, Mains and Interview. Jammu & Kashmir Public Service Commission conducts various competitive examinations for direct recruitment in Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Services, Police services and Accounts services. Through yearly examinations, the most talented & skilled candidates are recruited into different departments in the State Government.

    Applicants are selected based upon their performance in the Written Test & Interview conducted by the officials of JKPSC.

    Aspirants who have applied or are thinking about applying for recruitment through JKPSC are on the right page. Below is a description of the JKPSC exam pattern. The first step of preparation is understanding the JKPSC exam pattern and preparing accordingly.  

    Before appearing for the JKPSC examination candidates should have clear idea about the JKPSC exam pattern, the new paper structure for Prelims/Main Exam and other details like the marking scheme, duration etc.

    To get recruited through Jammu & Kashmir Public Service Commission, candidates need to clear the three most essential sections which are as follows:

    • JKPSC Prelims
    • JKPSC Mains Exam
    • Interview

    JKPSC Exam Pattern for Prelims:

    The preliminary examination of JKPSC – PCS will comprise of objective type (multiple choice questions). This examination is meant to serve as a screening test only. The marks obtained in JKPSC examination shall count only for short-listing of the candidates for the JKPSC Mains examination. JKPSC KAS Preliminary Examination consists of two papers.

    • Total marks assigned for the preliminary examination is 450.
    • The duration of the examination will be two hours each.
    • The question papers will be set in English.
    • The course content of the syllabi for the optional subjects will be of the degree level.
    • There is no negative marking

    JKPSC Exam Pattern for Mains:

    JKPSC Main Examination will consist of a written test and an interview.  The written test shall consist of question papers of descriptive type. KAS Exam Pattern for Mains consists of the following papers.

    • The question papers for the examination will be of the descriptive type.
    • Each paper will be of three hours.
    • The question papers other than language papers will be set in English.
    • Paper I on English will be of matriculation standard and will be of qualifying nature only. The marks obtained in this paper shall not count for ranking.
    • Candidates who obtain such minimum qualifying marks in written part of the Main Examination as may be fixed by the Commission in any or all the papers at their discretion shall be called for the interview.

    For the language papers, the scripts to be used by the candidates will be as under:


    Candidates will NOT be allowed to offer the following combination of subjects:

    • Political Science & International Relations and Public Administration.
    • Commerce and Accountancy and Management.
    • Anthropology and Sociology
    • Mathematics and Statistics.
    • Agriculture and Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science.
    • Management and Public Administration.
    • Philosophy and Psychology of the Engineering subject viz.
    • Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering not more than one subject.
