Model Answer

To launch the Civil Disobedience Movement Mahatma Gandhi decided to break the rule by making salt from the sea water. He started his journey from Sabarmati Ashram to Dandi which is known as Dandi March of Gandhiji. On 6 April 1930 Gandhi and his associates broke the salt law by making salt and he immediately arrested after the act.

To keep the momentum of the movement strong in the absence of Gandhiji, Jawahar lal Nehru addressed the satyagris. He reminded them to stick with the Gandhian methods of agitation. He urged the followers to keep calm and not to react violently even if they were provoked by the British government. The agenda was very clear that unnatural end of the movement like that of non cooperation movement should be avoided.

It is very clear that when when a mass movement turns violent the government get an excuse to repress it. People were came together under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi and following his methods were necessary for the success of the movement. The appeal of Nehru worked and pan India mass agitation forced the British government to negotiate with Gandhiji who agreed to take part in 2nd round table conference.
