GPSC 2020 - Gujarat Public Service Commission Exam

GPSC 2020 - Gujarat Public Service Commission (GPSC) conducts the GPSC exam to recruit candidates for Class I, II and III vacancies. This year, a total of 1716 vacancies will be filled through GPSC civil services exam. The exam is conducted in three stages - Prelims, Mains and Interview. GPSC 2020 Notification will be released shortly.

GPSC 2019 Update: GPSC Mains examination 2019 which was scheduled to be held on February 23, March 08 & 15, 2020 has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The revised dates of the exam will be announced soon.

GPSC 2020 Application Form 

The official application form for applying to the GPSC exam will be available on the official website. Candidates have to keep track of the deadline before which they must apply for it. 

Candidates must keep all details ready before they start applying. The application is to be submitted in the online mode only. Candidates have to submit only one application. Submitting more than one application for the same candidate may lead to the cancellation of the application. Candidates are also advised to check if they satisfy all eligibility criteria before they apply for the exam.

Steps to fill an Online GPSC Application Form 2020:

  • Firstly, visit the homepage of GPSC by visiting the official website.
  • Now, click on the ‘Apply online’ tab provided on the homepage.
  • Now, you have to select the appropriate exam link.
  • Part 1 of the application will ask for your details.
  • Submission of part 1 details will give you a reference id.
  • After that, part 2 of the application will ask you to upload a photograph, scanned signature, and pay exam fees.
  • Details once submitted in the application form can’t be changed.
  • Before clicking on the submit button, make sure all entries are right..
  • Keep the hard copy of the form for further reference.

GPSC 2020 Application fees 

  • Fees for general category and OBC candidates – INR 100/-
  • For SC/ST candidates – No fee required.
  • For socially/economically backward classes of state of Gujarat only – No fees.
  • For Physically challenged candidates – No fees.

Fees can be remitted in both offline/online modes.

  • Offline Mode – Candidates have to remit the required fee at any post office branches and get a challan as an acknowledgment for the same. Later the same challan number has to be entered in the online application form.
  • Online Mode – Candidates can pay the fee online through internet banking/ credit or debit cards, etc.
  • Fees paid through any other mode – cash/ Demand draft / Indian postal order ARE NOT ACCEPTED.

GPSC 2020 Eligibility Criteria 

The exam conducting body prescribes the eligibility criteria of GPSC along with its notification. Candidates are advised to check the Gujarat PSC eligibility criteria in order to avoid rejection. The eligibility criteria are based on nationality, age, and educational qualification: 


  • Citizens of India are eligible to apply for the GPSC 2020 exam.
  • Interstate candidates are also encouraged to apply, subject to conditions.

Education Qualifications

  • Graduation from a recognized university of India or equivalent degree. 
  • Any recognized degree or 3-year qualification equivalent to graduation is also applicable. 

GPSC Age Limit

  • The general age criteria prescribed are between 20 to 35 years.

Age Relaxation

  • For reserved category candidates, age relaxation norms are applicable (which will be notified later in the official website).
  • For economically backward classes, SC/ST of Gujarat state ONLY – Reservation Applicable.
  • Women candidates belonging to reserved categories – Relaxation in the upper age limit, up to 10 years. ( Maximum age limit – 45 years)
  • Women candidates belonging to the general category – 5 years in the upper slab. (Maximum age limit – 45 years).
  • For physically disabled candidates – Relaxation in the upper age limit, up to 10 years.

Number of attempts 

  • There is no specific limit on the number of attempts a candidate can make, but they have to strictly adhere to the upper age limit as specified by the commission

GPSC 2020 Admit Card

Candidates can download the admit card from the official website. The admit card contains all important details of the candidate like name, address, registration number, exam center, venue, date of examination, timings, etc. Candidates are requested to keep duplicate copies of the admit card with them in case the original gets lost/stolen etc. No candidate would be allowed to sit for the examination without carrying the admit card along with them to the exam premises.

Steps to download GPSC admit card 2020:

  • Firstly, visit the official website of GPSC.
  • Browse for the activated link that will allow you to download the admit card of GPSC.
  • Enter registration number, date of birth, captcha code, and any other details if asked for candidate verification.
  • Once the admit card is open, please save a copy/ download/take a print copy.
  • Check for the correctness of all details pertaining to the candidate. In case of any discrepancy in the details/exam venue etc., kindly contact the concerned person mentioned in the official site.

GPSC 2020 Exam Pattern 

The GPSC civil services examination consists of three rounds – prelims, mains, and the interview/personality test round. In this section, we describe each of the sections. To know the complete GPSC Exam Pattern 2020, refer to our page.


  • The preliminary examination consists of 2 papers – general studies 1 and general studies 2.
  • Each paper is of 200 marks and 2 hours each.

  • Candidates who clear the preliminary exam with qualifying marks will be allowed to appear for the mains examination.
  • Here, all papers are descriptive in nature.
  • The mains exam consists of 6 papers totally.
  • The subjects covered are 3 papers of general studies, paper on Gujarati language, English language, and essay papers.
  • Each paper is allocated 150 marks and conducted for 3 hours each.
  • The total marks for the mains exam are 900.

  • Students who score above the cut off marks in the mains exam will be called in for the personality test or the interview round.
  • The marks scored in the mains exam, and the interview round will be taken for the final calculation of marks and, therefore, the ranking of the candidate in the final list.
  • The duration of the interview is not fixed. IT depends on the panel conducting the interview.
  • The interview will be conducted for a total of 100 marks.
  • The total marks of both mains and interview round come to 1000 marks.

GPSC 2020 Syllabus 

The syllabus for each of the exam is different. The syllabus of each section, in brief, is provided below. Candidates can refer to our GPSC Syllabus 2020 page to obtain a complete syllabus.


The prelims consist of multiple-choice questions. There are two papers, and the corresponding syllabus is indicated here:

  • General studies paper 1 – Subject areas include History, cultural heritage, the constitution of India, policymaking, social justice in India, India-international relations. 
  • General studies paper 2 – Subjects are pertaining to the Indian economy, geography, planning commission, science and technological events, current topics that are of importance at the local, national, and international levels. 


The brief syllabus of all the six papers is indicated below:

  • Gujarati paper – Grammar, essay, comprehension, translation, and related questions.
  • General English – letter writing, comprehension, report writing, translation, etc.
  • Essay – Topics include socio-economic topics, environmental issues, civic awareness, and current socio-political topics.
  • General studies paper 1 – covers topics on History, geography, and cultural relations of India.
  • General studies paper 2 – covers topics on Indian administration, policy making, public administration, governance, and public service.
  • General studies paper 3 – covers topics on science and technology, the economy of India, planning, current events of local, national, and international importance. 


Candidates are expected to keep these points in mind while attending the personal interview round. They will be tested on these aspects as given below:

  • Present good arguments on the topic of discussion.
  • Ability to participate in group discussions with the panel.
  • Awareness of subjects and the ability to organize ideas.
  • The originality of ideas expressed.
  • Good communication/interpersonal skills.

GPSC 2020 Answer Key 

GPSC releases the provisional and final answer key for the exam. The answer key of GPSC contains the correct answer to all the questions asked in the exam. The GPSC final answer key will be published in pdf format. Candidates can compare their answers with that of GPSC answer key 2020 and check their probable scores. The result of GPSC will be declared on the basis of the final GPSC answer key. 

GPSC 2020 Result 

The result of GPSC will be released separately for all three stages - prelims, mains and personality tests. GPSC result 2020 is released in online mode in the form of pdf.  In order to get recruited, candidates will have to qualify all three stages of GPSC. Candidates obtaining minimum qualifying marks in mains examination will be shortlisted for personality tests. On the basis of marks secured in the mains exam and personality test, the final result of GPSC will be declared. 

GPSC 2020 Cut Off 

  • The cut off marks for the exam will vary from year to year.
  • The commission will announce them after displaying results.
  • Cut off marks depend on a lot of factors like – number of vacancies, number of candidates applied for the exam, competition and toughness level in the exam, etc.
  • The cut off marks are different for each category.
  • Candidates can check for the cut off marks on the official website.
