Polity is one of the most important section of the General studies paper in UPSC CSE Prelims as well as Mains exam.  The GS paper 2 of UPSC Mains consist of Polity among other topics. Polity - An overview

Polity is an easily readable subject. Once you have clarity in the subject, you will be at a position to understand the basic functionality of the Government. How elections are held, How the parliament works, what are the responsibility of your leaders and most important you will be aware of your rights and duties.


Polity Syllabus

Polity syllabus is very structured and is divided as per levels in the governance. Union, state and local government. There are few other topics like the constitution in the making, constitutional amendments, constitutional and non-constitutional bodies and the most important of them, judiciary at all levels.

The questions asked in the UPSC Examination are relatively simple in Polity. The subject is interesting and requires regular and multiple revision. It is a scoring subject and an aspirant should not make mistakes in this subject.

For Initial reading, Laxmikanth is sufficient for both prelims as well as mains but the major issues come with topics related to current affairs.
