Divergent plate boundaries
Divergent plate boundaries occur at locations where the lithospheric plates move away from each other. They occur above the rising convection currents in the asthenosphere. At the point of the crest of upliftment the plate is stretched, which breaks it and pulls the above plates apart, creating a divergent boundary.

The theory of Plate Tectonics describes the movement of lithospheric plates. The theory builds upon the concept of continental drifting and seafloor spreading.
Eutrophication and Algal Blooms
Sea Floor Spreading
Sea Floor Spreading states that new oceanic crust is being formed continuously at mid-oceanic ridges, while the older rocks move away from the ridge.
Continental Drift Theory: Evidences and Criticism
Continental Drift Theory proposed by Alfred Wegener tries to explain the distribution of oceans and continents. He gives many evidences in support of his theory. Although the theory has some lacunae but it is the foundation for modern theories such as plate tectonics and sea floor spreading.
